Forest fires in Kazakhstan up by 41%

The number of forest fires in Kazakhstan has increased by 41% and the area affected sixfold, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has announced. According to rescue forces, “from the start of the year there were 486 fires registered in state forests, with 3,915 hectares burnt and 127m tenge of material damage caused.”

The country’s steppe regions experienced 37 fires affecting 18,063 hectares.
